EPPA - Ecole Past Pupils Assosiation

Another EPPA (I know its funny) get-together has been organized on the 12th of this month at the school premises (Digna Village) 10am onwards. There is supposed to be Cricket, swimming, DJ music, food stalls and drinks...Members free entrance and non members Rs.250...of course you can register yourself at the entrance by paying Rs.750 for the rest of the year for free entrance to all other events organized this year....

I hope there would be a good crowd on the 12th...anyone who can come please do...the last time I was in Kandy was for Tharani's funeral...I hope to see as many EPP's as possible this time...

Guess what?? I am an uncle now!!! After a 9 hour struggle my niece finally decided to come out and see the world!!! God knows how my sister went through the last 9 hours!!! The atmosphere was absolutely tensed awaiting the arrival of the first baby in our family!! The baby was born today (20th June 2006) healthy and cute at around 11:45am. Even after that we had to wait about 3 hours before we could see the mother and baby. It was a normal delivery and almost everything was normal except the long wait. It was long and tiring day for all of us waking up very very early in the morning...some not sleeping at all...but I guess that is what usually ends up as the most unforgettable times in our lives. I have got a few pics of the baby, have a look at them…I will be posting more pics of the baby…these are the day 1 pics ;-)

A trip to Kisho's place (N'eliya)

Well…I took advantage of Monday being a holiday and extended it a bit more by taking Tuesday off to just relax and have a good time in N’eliya. What do you know…we had more fun and action that drained any remaining energy I had left!!

It all started when Kisho invited us (Abdul and me) to his house in Ragala (N’eliya)…we wanted it to be a bit more exciting so we thought of traveling to Ragala in our bikes…just like the last time…plan was for Abdul and my self to go to Kandy in our bikes…rest at our friends place there, pick Kisho in town and go to N’eliya. As usual we got late in Kandy…lost in the beauty of the place that we were born in which kept holding us back…when we finally did decide to leave Kandy it was pretty late…the rest of the journey and all the way back was really long story..in short…we were almost killed by a wild elephant…went off the hill because the elephant was chasing after us (It was nearly 11:30 in the night…pitch-dark)…met my death bend for the 2^nd time...got wet in the rain...very very cold in N’eliya…next time we are not going to listen to Kisho and take a shortcut he recommends (glad we are alive)…a snake went right under our feet and we almost trampled it when we walked through the tea estate…took the longest, wettest, muddiest ride from Ragala to N’eliya in the evening… had the funniest and most badly planned BBQ in history…a guy knocked down my bike WHILE it was PARKED outside the hotel we had lunch in!!! I had to spend an extra day in Kandy because of that…the last little adventure was Abdul bowing down to the guys who were RIP in a cemetery on the way to Colombo…got late come to Colombo..there were so many other things that happened which cannot be said here…it was just as fun as some of the things I have said here…

That was the worst vacation I have ever had…but it was undoubtedly just another usual mess we get into when we do something planned…it has been that way when we were schooling and is going to be that way no matter what we do…we are just attracted to bad luck…sometimes we just go chasing after it…it would have been nice if the rest of our little group was here…but unfortunately some are in Singapore, UK, Australia and the working in Colombo…hope you guys are having as much fun as we are..hope to see all of you together sometime soon…have fun and take a look at the pics from the trip…cheers!

I once had a friend who grew to be very close to me. Once when we were sitting at the edge of a swimming pool, she filled the palm of her hand with some water and held it before me, and said this: "You see this water carefully contained on my hand? It symbolizes Love."

This was how I saw it: As long as you keep your hand caringly open and allow it to remain there, it will always be there. However, if you attempt to close your fingers round it and try to posses it, it will spill through the first cracks it finds.

This is the greatest mistake that people do when they meet love...they try to posses it, they demand, they expect... and just like the water spilling out of your hand, love will retrieve from you .

For love is meant to be free, you cannot change its nature. If there are people you love, allow them to be free beings.

When You Divorce Me, Carry Me Out in Your Arms -good article

On my wedding day, I carried my wife in my arms. The bridal car stopped in front of our one-room flat. My buddies insisted that I carry her out of the car in my arms. So I carried her into our home. She was then plump and shy. I was a strong and happy bridegroom.

This was the scene of ten years ago. The following days were as simple as a cup of pure water: we had a kid, I went into business and tried to make more money. When the assets were steadily increasing, the affections between us seemed to
ebb. She was a civil servant. Every morning we left home together and got home almost at the same time. Our kid was
studying in a boarding school.

Our marriage life seemed to be enviably happy. But the calm life was more likely to be affected by unpredictable
changes. Dew came into my life.

It was a sunny day. I stood on a spacious balcony. Dew hugged me from behind. My heart once again was immersed in her stream of love. This was the apartment I bought for her.

Dew said, "You are the kind of man who best draws girls' eyeballs. Her words suddenly reminded me of my wife. When we just married, my wife said, "Men like you, once successful, will be very attractive to girls. Thinking of this, I became somewhat hesitant. I knew I had betrayed my
wife. But I couldn't help doing so.

I moved Dew's hands aside and said," You go to select some furniture, O.K.? I've got something to do in the company."
Obviously she was unhappy, because I had promised her to go and see with her. At the moment, the idea of divorce became clearer in my mind although it used to be something impossible to me.

However, I found it rather difficult to tell my wife about it. No
matter how mildly I mentioned it to her, she would be
deeply hurt. Honestly, she was a good wife. Every evening she was busy preparing dinner. I was sitting in front of the TV. The dinner was ready soon. Then we watched TV together. Or, I was lounging before the computer, visualizing Dew's body. This was the means of my entertainment.

One day I said to her in a slight joking way, "Suppose we divorce, what will you do?" She stared at me for a few seconds without a word. Apparently she believed that 'divorce' was something too far away from her. I couldn't imagine how she would react once she got to know I was
serious.

When my wife went to my office, Dew had just stepped out.
Almost all the staff looked at my wife with a sympathetic eye and tried to hide something while talking with her. She seemed to have got some hint. She gently smiled at my subordinates. But I read some hurt in her eyes.

Once again, Dew said to me, "He Ning, divorce her, O.K.? Then we live together." I nodded. I knew I could not hesitate anymore. When my wife served the last dish, I held her
hand. "I've got something to tell you," I said.

She sat down and ate quietly. Again I observed the hurt in her eyes. Suddenly I didn't know how to open my mouth. But
I had to let her know what I was thinking. "I want to divorce." I raised a serious topic calmly.

She didn't seem to be much annoyed by my words, instead she asked me softly, "why?". "I'm serious." I avoided her question. This so-called answer turned her angry. She threw away the chopsticks and shouted at me, "you are not a man!".

At that night, we didn't talk to each other. She was weeping. I knew she wanted to find out what had happened to our marriage. But I could hardly give her a satisfactory answer,
because my heart had gone to Dew.

With a deep sense of guilt, I drafted a divorce agreement which stated that she could own our house, our car, and 30%
stake of my company. She glanced at it and then tore it into pieces. I felt a pain in my heart. The woman who had been living ten years with me would become a stranger one day. But I could not take back what I had said.

Finally she cried loudly in front of me, which was what I had expected to see. To me her cry was actually a kind of
release. The idea of divorce which had obsessed me for several weeks seemed to be firmer and clearer.

A late night, I came back home after entertaining my clients. I saw her writing something at the table. I fell asleep fast.
When I woke up, I found she was still there. I turned over and was asleep again. She brought up her divorce conditions: she didn't want anything from me, but I was supposed to give her one month's time before divorce, and in the month's time we must live as normal life as possible. Her reason was simple: our son would finish his summer vacation a month later and she didn't want him to see our marriage was
broken.

She passed me the agreement she drafted, and then asked me, "He Ning, do you still remember how I entered our bridal room on the wedding day?"This question suddenly brought back all those wonderful memories to me. I nodded and said, "I remember". "You carried me in your arms", she
continued, "so, I have a requirement, that is, you carry me out in your arms on the day when we divorce. From now to the end of this month, you must carry me out from the bedroom to the door every morning." I accepted with a smile. I knew she missed those sweet days and wished to end her marriage with a romantic form.

I told Dew about my wife's divorce conditions. She laughed loudly and thought it was absurd. "No matter what tricks she
does, she has to face the result of divorce," she said scornfully. Her words more or less made me feel uncomfortable.

My wife and I hadn't had any body contact since my divorce intention was explicitly expressed. We even treated each other as a stranger. So when I carried her out for the first day, we both appeared clumsy. Our son clapped behind us, "daddy is holding mummy in his arms." His words brought me a sense of pain. From the bedroom to the sitting room, then to the door, I walked over ten meters with her in my arms. She closed her eyes and said softly, "Let us start
from today, don't tell our son." I nodded, feeling somewhat upset. I put her down outside the door. She went to wait for bus, I drove to office.

On the second day, both of us acted much more easily. She leaned on my chest. We were so close that I could smell the
fragrance of her blouse. I realized that I hadn't looked at this intimate woman carefully for a long time. I found she was not young any more. There were some fine wrinkles on her face.

On the third day, she whispered to me, "The outside garden is being demolished. Be careful when you pass there." On the fourth day, when I lifted her up, I seemed to feel that we were still an intimate couple and I was holding my sweetheart in my arms. The visualization of Dew became vaguer.

On the fifth and sixth day, she kept reminding me something, such as, where she put the ironed shirts, I should be careful
while cooking, etc. I nodded. The sense of intimacy was even stronger.

I didn't tell Dew about this. I felt it was easier to carry her. Perhaps the everyday workout made me stronger. I said to her, "It seems not difficult to carry you now."

She was picking her dresses. I was waiting to carry her out. She tried quite a few but could not find a suitable one. Then
she sighed, "All my dresses have grown fatter." I smiled. But I suddenly realized that it was because she was thinner that I could carry her more easily, not because I was stronger. I knew she had buried all the bitterness in her heart. Again, I felt a sense of pain. Subconsciously I reached out a hand to
touch her head. Our son came in at the moment. "Dad, it's time to carry mum out." He said. To him, seeing his father carrying his mother out had been an essential part of his life. She gestured our son to come closer and hugged him tightly. I turned my face because I was afraid I would
change my mind at the last minute. I held her in my arms,
walking from the bedroom, through the sitting room, to the hallway. Her hand surrounded my neck softly and naturally. I held her body tightly, as if we came back to our wedding day. But her much lighter weight made me sad.

On the last day, when I held her in my arms I could hardly move a step. Our son had gone to school. She said, "Actually I hope you will hold me in your arms until we are old."

I held her tightly and said, "Both you and I didn't notice that our life was lack of such intimacy." I jumped out of the car swiftly without locking the door. I was afraid any delay would make me change my decision. I walked upstairs. Dew opened the door. I said to her, "Sorry, Dew, I won't divorce. I'm serious."

She looked at me, astonished. The she touched my forehead. "You got no fever." She said. I moved her hand off my head. "Sorry, Dew," I said, "I can only say sorry to you, I won't divorce. My marriage life was boring probably because she and I didn't value the details of life, not because we didn't love each other any more. Now I understand that since
I carried her into the home, she gave birth to our child, I am supposed to hold her until I am old. So I have to say sorry to
you."

Dew seemed to suddenly wake up. She gave me a loud slap and then slammed the door and burst into cry. I walked downstairs and drove to the office.When I passed the floral shop on the way, I ordered a bouquet for my wife which was her favorite. The salesgirl asked me to write the greeting words on the card. I smiled and wrote, "I'll carry you out
every morning until we are old."

Hi everyone...someone very close to me wanted me to put up the photo's of Jesus and Mary...So I have put up my most favorite photo's of Jesus and Mary, Our Lady of Perpetual Help.

This photo of Jesus is something that has always on mind and comes up when I think of him. I had this exact photo the wallet that got lost in Malaysia along with some other priceless collection in it....I carried this photo in my wallet longer than I remember...I remember changing wallets and always looking for a wallet that could hold this photo with a complete view...

The photo of Our Lady of Perpetual Help...well I really can't explain but that is my most favorite and memorable photo of her...maybe because I grew up looking at it at home and the church I went to...Every time I think of Mother Mary I see this picture in my head...

Okay...I have finally put the pictures all you guys were bugging me to show...finally got some time to put them up...was done in a hurry...there were so many pics I couldn't put them all so here are the some that I managed to choose.

Ho I forgot to tell about eating frog legs in Singapore....ho yeah...that was really tasty...Shaminda, Ibba, D, prashant and of course Me...We all enjoyed it and I would love to try it again...it was Frog legs with spring onions in oyster sauce...

Lastly a BIG THANK YOU from Abdul and me to Ibba (Mohamed) for everything you did for us while we were there....couldn't have done and had so much fun without you...and you are the reason for us to come there in the first place.

Musheen uncle and family (Fairose and Bashith) for putting up with us in Malaysia and showing us around KL..late nights...Durian fiesta!!...helpful tips and suggestions that helped us a lot during the stay there.

Rev. Sr. Therese and everyone at the home (Sr. Philomena, Sr. Marie Antoinette, Sr. Agatha, Sr. Margaret) for the kindness that you showed us in the short time that we were there, taking us around and showing the entire Penang in one day!!!...and for making it an unforgettable experience at Penang.

The entire gang at NUS - Nabeel, Prashant, D, Nadz, Shaminda and Ibba again for the wonderful and memorable time in Singapore...we appreciate the kindness shown to us even during the difficult times and are happy that Ibba has friends like you in Singapore...

Day: -1, Sri Lanka

It was 8am in the morning and I just woke up after 3hrs of sleep. The day finally arrived and I would be going to Malaysia this evening...There was so many things to do...well actually nothing has been done to begin with. So off I went to Abduls house in my friend's car making a mental list of everything that has to be done before we leave SL.

We start the day by making the "to do list" for the day...which ended up going up to 2 pages!! Buy backpacks, compass, lonely planet book for Malaysia, Singapore (Thanks to our Ibba), buy stuff for my aunt in Penang, meet my uncle to get some of the stuff from them, buy stuff for Abduls uncle in Malaysia, meet Ibba's mom, meet 3 of Abduls friends, pack our bags are just a few on the list...the rest is better kept a secret ;-)...ho and the Visas!! We still had not get the Malaysian Visas, so we have this 1hr gap that the Malaysian embassy is open to go and collect it. I was nearly afternoon when we finished the list and made sure everything was under control.

The first place we went to was Petta...the shopping complex where you can find anything!!! ;-)..First off the backpacks...we spent 1 and half hours bargaining for the perfect backpacks we had come across only to find out that we were being cheated...we didn't buy it but were out of time to get to the embassy to get the Visa, rushed to the embassy got that done with enough time to get in before the gates closed, went looking for lonely planet book everywhere we went, bought the stuff for our relatives in KL, SG...went back to Petta, bought the same backpack for half the price we bargained for in a different shop...and we didn't even bargain for it this time!!!...bought all those other stuff I didnt put on the site :D...went to Wellawatte to meet Abduls friends...locked the car keys inside the car!!! Met my friend and got spare keys, went back to get the car, still looking for lonely planet and some other stuff we missed to take to SG...went to the money changer and got the currency converted...by now the time was 6pm...we had one last stop before we headed back home to pack our bags....the next 2 and half hours we were stuck in traffic before I dropped Abdul and went home to get ready and pack my bag

Packed my bag in 20minutes (forgot to pack something very very important for my aunt) had wash and went to pick Abdul from his house and went to meet Ibba's mom, it usually takes 1hour to go there but I managed to get there in less than half an hour in my brothers car. We ordered a cab on the way back form Ibba's house to go to the airport at 11pm, we had to be in the airport by 12:30 if we were going to make it to the flight. we were talking about everything that happened that day and had a laugh in the car when I told Abdul that everything that could go wrong that day had already happened and nothing else could go wrong, 2 minutes later...*clunk* #clunk#...the car was out of gas and stopped half way back to office to get the cab!!!

Well I got out of the car and I remembered my favourite quote "If God brought you to it, He will bring you through it". i just looked around for an Angel in disguise...I found 2 Angels about 10 meters from where the car stopped. The guys showed me a gas station really close to where the car stopped, i filled a can of petrol and got the car moving and the rest my friends is history...we managed to make it to the air port almost on time..

The next week or so was just as exciting as what happened this day...fighting against time and making last minute decisions...it was awesome fun...what made it more exciting are my friends Abdul and Ibba and all the unexpected things that happened during the vacation...

Highlights of the trip...walking, Almost getting lost in KL the first day, walking, getting lost listening to Ibba's direction, walking, 2 tallest building in the world, Batu caves, KL tower, shopping, walking, Penang, canopy walks, Taman Negara (Awesome fun), trekking, walking, starving, dehydrating, walking, getting lost, falling, leeches, rain, Abdul trouble (Shhhhh), Abduls plastic bag and rubber band (shhhhh), the great escape from the forest, loosing my wallet, ibba's friends, toy shop (Shhh), Hareen, walking...and a whole lot more adventures...Already this looks like a book!!! I will be putting up some of the trip photos soon....

Singapore...

The earliest known mention of Singapore was a 3rd century Chinese account which described Singapore as "Pu-luo-chung" ("island at the end of a peninsula"). Little is known about the island's history at this time but this matter-of-fact description belies Singapore's colourful past. By the 14th century, Singapore had become part of the mighty Sri Vijayan empire and was known as Temasek ("Sea Town").

This was no less accurate than the 3rd century name. Located at the natural meeting point of sea routes at the tip of the Malay Peninsula, Singapore had long known visits from a wide variety of sea craft, from Chinese junks, Indian vessels, Arab dhows and Portuguese battleships to Buginese schooners.

Singapore's population of almost four million comprises 77% Chinese, 14% Malays, 8% Indians and 1% Eurasians and people of other descent. The original inhabitants were Malay fishermen, but after the arrival of Sir Stamford Raffles and the establishment of a British trading post, Singapore became a magnet that drew hundreds of thousands of migrants and merchants. Seeking a better life for themselves and their families, they came from the southern provinces of China, Indonesia, India, Pakistan, Ceylon and the Middle East. Though inter-marriages have taken place over the years, each racial group within Singapore has retained its own cultural identity while developing as an integral part of Singapore community.

Singapore is not just one island but a main island with 63 surrounding islets. The main island has a total land area of 682 square km.

FRIDAY THE 13TH - how did Friday the thirteenth become such an unlucky day?

Fear of Friday the 13th is rooted in ancient, separate bad-luck associations with the number 13 and the day Friday. The two unlucky entities combine to make one super unlucky day.
There is a Norse myth about 12 gods having a dinner party at Valhalla, their heaven. In walked the uninvited 13th guest, the mischievous Loki. Once there, Loki arranged for Hoder, the blind god of darkness, to shoot Balder the Beautiful, the god of joy and gladness, with a mistletoe-tipped arrow. Balder died and the Earth got dark. The whole Earth mourned.
There is a Biblical reference to the unlucky number 13. Judas, the apostle who betrayed Jesus, was the 13th guest to the Last Supper.
A particularly bad Friday the 13th occurred in the middle ages. On a Friday the 13th in 1306, King Philip of France arrested the revered Knights Templar and began torturing them, marking the occasion as a day of evil.
In ancient Rome, witches reportedly gathered in groups of 12. The 13th was believed to be the devil.
Both Friday and the number 13 were once closely associated with capital punishment. In British tradition, Friday was the conventional day for public hangings, and there were supposedly 13 steps leading up to the noose.
It is traditionally believed that Eve tempted Adam with the apple on a Friday. Tradition also has it that the Flood in the Bible, the confusion at the Tower of Babel, and the death of Jesus Christ all took place on Friday.
Numerologists consider 12 a "complete" number. There are 12 months in a year, 12 signs of the zodiac, 12 gods of Olympus, 12 labors of Hercules, 12 tribes of Israel, and 12 apostles of Jesus. In exceeding 12 by 1, 13's association with bad luck has to do with just being a little beyond completeness.

*In France, socialites known as the quatorziens (fourteeners) once made themselves available as 14th guests to keep a dinner party from an unlucky fate.
*Many triskaidekaphobes, as those who fear the unlucky integer are known, point to the ill-fated mission to the moon, Apollo 13.
*If you have 13 letters in your name, you will have the devil's luck . Jack the Ripper, Charles Manson, Jeffrey Dahmer, Theodore Bundy and Albert De Salvo all have 13 letters in their names

Google's Suggest...

Google Suggest...its a beta version that google has developed which is very interesting...its the normal Google search, just that it gives a list suggestions of items that have already been searched by others and the number of times it has been searched for!!! It gives you an idea of what you are looking for and at times even explore new stuff. Its like the list of suggestions that appear of the history of searches that you have done in your computer.

Try it out, I am sure it will keep you occupied for some time

One of the most memorable classes...spent too much time in this class I guess

The now chemistry lab....hmm...one bump cricket in there...wrestling matches...hmm..both a very very long time ago...french classes ;)...phy lab...long b4 it became a chem lab

I bet there cant be a single person in ecole who wont have a fond memory related to those steps!!! Any1 remember any???

The VIP seats at our ground ;)....and thats the new building behind that...there is a graveyard of memories buried underneath that :(

I love this school...where else would you enjoy beauty like this...and this is just what I could capture on one frame...

The tree hated by the cricketers and loved for the shade it gives...specially 4 the guys on the steps ;)

	Daddy getting impatient with how slow the time is passing…we have waited a looooong time now...	Daddy starting to walk up and down in front of the labour room...we are still waiting....	And we continue to wait....
We get the news…the visitation of the first aunt....wishing the new daddy…	A couple of hours later...Grandma taking her first grandchild!!!	The tug o war!!!! Check out the grin of Daddy back there ;-)	Great-grandma and grandma playing with the new toy....
